An Ordination - Muang Mang Sipsong Panna (บวชลูกแก้ว - เมืองมาง สิบสองปันนา)

This is a Buddhist novice ordination in Lue country. It took place for two days in Muang Mang , a small border town in southeast Xishuangbanna, bordering to Muang Singh, northwest Laos, about 25 kms. This town I visited quite often when I was doing fieldwork in Sipsong Panna. I filmed this Buddhist ritual, on 9-10 Feb 2003, partly because I was asked by a 'foster father' (พ่อออก) of one boy, who (five of them) in that year became ordained as a novice, after a few years that they had been 'the Buddhist apprentice' in a temple they were going to reside for years, living their monkhood studying Buddha teachings. This work is dedicated to Nicholas Tapp (4 Nov-1952-10 Oct 2015) my phd supervisor at the Australian National University, from 2002-2006.
